The multimedia object that I selected for this assignment is the screen cast video that I created for week5. My screen cast is about SmartArt function in PowerPoint. I took the time and reviewed all the topics that we had from beginning of the term till week 9 so I can create a better screen cast with better quality and more attention to the details. On week 6, we learned about SAMR. based on SAMR, I evaluated the way I incorporated technology into my instructional practice by using SmartArt in PowerPoint the functional improvement is achieved, so it is augmentation level. Week 7 theory was sections model and I incorporate the 9 critical point to evaluate if the media selected was right. I found the SmartArt is available on every version of PowerPoint and the ease of use and cost is fair. At the other hand, the combination of technology, pedagogy and content is acceptable as I had experiences with the technology. So, I chose my screen cast video as the object worth reviewing and upgrading and have a closer look to improve it. The combination of narration and graphics, based on Mayer’s multimedia principles and modality principle is followed in my screen cast. I decided not to add text based on that. I did add signaling to highlight the key information. I emphasized on the where learners can find the “SmartArt” function in PowerPoint. I was already using conversational style in my narration in my first version of the screen cast, but I decided that I need to have my picture at the beginning of the video. So based on design theory that we learned on week 4, I added a small intro to what the topic is and who are the audience for the screen cast. I wanted the screen cast to have the learner performance in mind and be learners centered to improve learner’s performance in real problems. I think by the changes that I made, the multimedia learning object is effective in increasing knowledge transfer based on multimedia learning principles and related learning theories.
